Martin Sollesnes Kleppe and Oliver Karlsen have received the Lehmkuhl Scholarship for their master’s thesis on energy efficiency in the offshore sector.

They have developed a digital tool that combines weather data and technical analysis to determine the most energy-efficient heading for supply vessels that are stationary at sea. The solution can reduce fuel consumption by up to 15.5%, and the method has received positive feedback from both researchers and industry professionals.

The master’s thesis was written as part of the Climate Futures collaboration and is titled “Vessel heading optimization. A techno-economic optimization of vessel heading for energy-efficient dynamic positioning of Offshore Support Vessels.”
